Yes.
Not REAL kids, or Smart Reader, or Q-Dees or Genius Aulad or PASTI or TASKI Abim.
I send my son to a good ol' tadika gomen.
And contrary to the old belief that "budak-budak yang pergi tadika kerajaan ni reti nyanyi-nyanyi, menari-menari saja", the syllabus they use there is similar to the one used in pre-school classes organized in primary schools. Tadika Kemas, Tabika Perpaduan and Pra-sekolah are all using similar syllabus which had been vetted by the Ministry of Education. Of course, the quality of teaching varies from one kindie/pre-school class to another, as the teacher themselves play a great role. Still, Huzaifah gets to learn Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics, English, Pendidikan Islam, and on top of that, he has Iqra' class from 12.00 to 1.00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday. Alhamdulillah, the teachers are more keen on making sure that the children could recite their do'a and ayat-ayat lazim better than training them to sing and dance.
Both hubby and I both went to good ol' Tadika Kemas too - and we thought, why not try sending our son to one too? Granted, Tabika Perpaduan is not exactly a Tadika Kemas - but it is much or less of the same standard. Nevertheless, we also have to keep Huzaifah's own interest in mind and we think maybe next year, we'll try to enrol him in the Pra-sekolah class in the school where his father is teaching (both secondary and primary schools are on the same compound). Huzaifah himself had already indicated to his Ayah that he would like to go to "sekolah yang besar tu" next year, insya Allah. And we are aware that there are some differences in the quality of teaching, and that is only to be expected what with teachers in pre-school classes in primary schools being graduates with degree in education (DG41)
There have been studies that show that the differences between the facilities, tools, learning environment, teachers' qualification et cetera between those provided in government kindergarten and private kindergarten is not that significant. Try reading this for example - on the differences between private kindergartens and Tadika Kemas.
I'm not saying that there is no point in sending kids to expensive private kindie - a lot of my friends do just that and I have nothing against it. To each their own.
The primary care-givers to the children are us, the parents. The bulk of education responsibility should sit with us - not sub-contracted to the school, the teachers. For some 'reasons'
So, I guess more need to be done to highlight the fact that government kindergartens are not a bad choice either when it comes to sending our children for pre-school education.
Not bad at all.

OK apa hantar tadika gomen. My dear Raimie went to Tadika Sang Kancil when he was 5 and Tadika Kemas when he was 6. By the time he entered std 1, he knows how to read and count and pretty sociable too.
Masa 2 tahun, mcm2 program & pertandingan cikgu dia masukkan dia. Dari tilawah ke story telling (he was always chosen for english story telling) ke peraduan mewarna. Tadika goem pun byk aktiviti. One thing I suka, it is very near to my FIL's house. Jln kaki aje. :D
Haida dear sekolah tadika gomen is as good as sekolah kebangsaan or menengah gomen - kita dianya living proof kan heheh - kalau kita percaya semua pada private then not only tadika maybe anak pun kena htr international private school but tak semua mampu - cuma biasala kita kadang2 nak bagi yang lebih baik dari apa yg kita dapat and sometimes competition among kita ni ooo semua htr g smart reader anak kita pun terpaksa la htr (i am talking about myself in particular) tu la kelemahan suka ikut org ni hehe but I do believe that our gomen tadika is not that bad - it is the teacher that counts bukan tadika tu - kalau elokla berwibawa teacher ok ja :)
Lina: Itulah - tadika gomen pun banyak aktiviti; pertandingan itu ini dan lawatan sana sini. Raimie must be good to be chosen for tilawah & story telling competition. My Ujai - kalau dia dapat duduk diam-diam dengar kawan-kawan dia bertilawah & story telling pun dah cukup bagus dah tu, hehehe :-)
Erma: Yeah, tell me about peer pressure. Ada kawan yang pertikai - eh, staf sokongan pun hantar anak kat tadika swasta, apa pasal pulak I pi hantar anak kat tadika gomen. I senyum je
Betullah - tadika mana pun, baik tadika gomen atau swasta - yang penting adalah kewibawaan, sikap & kualiti cikgu-cikgu yang urus & ajar anak-anak tu... cikgu ok, insya Allah anak-anak ok, tak kisahlah tadika mana pun...
ha. you know, i never realized i went to a private kindy until much, much later. i thought it was gomen punya, ingat ke semua taman perumahan kerajaan kena buat sebijik kindy, satu sekolah rendah, satu sekolah agama petang, satu sekolah menengah... naive sungguh saya ;)
Rin: yes dear, you were - and up to some point, still are - naive indeed ;-)
Aku pun pi sekolah tadika besa-besa jer...zaman tu memang betullah, main memanjang...hahaha...(walaupun Aku yg nakal ni cuma bertahan 6 bulan)...lepas tu pi sekolah rendah dan sekolah menengah besa-besa jugak, sekolah kampung jerk...tapi alhamdulillah, idup elok jer...hahaha...pokok-pangkalnya supporting systems around us, bukan setakat masa kat sekolah tu aje. Betui dak???
Anira: Ha ah - dulu-dulu tadika swasta pun banyak main je - cuma bezanya mainan kat tadika swasta lagi 'canggih' daripada kat tadika kemas, hehehe...
As for supporting systems - I agree :-)
@AZ Haida,
Idakle bagus mana, my son. My hubby used to joke that our son was always chosen sebab mak bapak dia aje yg sanggup ke hulu ke hilir dtg semua event yg tadika arrange, kenkadang siap angkut anak org lain jugak. Mak Bapak lain byk yg bizi. :D
Anyway, hantar ke tadika private or gomen ni, I think it boils down to what one expect their children to achieve. For us, Raimie pegi utk main & socialise. Membaca, mengira dan segala mcm "me" lagi, kitaorg dah slowly ajar kat rumah since he was smaller. Aiseh, fries kat McD tu pun boleh buat bahan utk ajar addition & subtraction. LOL Anyway, I kesian kat dia kalau umur 5 thn dah bertimbun keje rumah nak kena buat.
Tapi sebab tak hantar tadika glemer, Raimie tu idakle terer speaking omputeh mcm kwn2 dia kat sekolah rendah. There's pros and there's cons. Tak gitu?
lina: yup, there's pros and cons - no matter which kindie our child goes to...
i pun sama - tujuan hantar ujai ke tadika lebih untuk let him socialise with kids his own age. ada kawan cakap, ujai tak sesuai pegi tadika yang silabus berat-berat ni, tak sesuai dengan jiwa dia (yang asyik nak main je), hehehe :-)
